2024 has been a steady year. We are blessed that our packaging business across all industries has remained solid and unshaken. Throughout the year, our trade fairs have performed strongly reflecting Hong Kong’s unique position as the world-class business hub and meeting hub for the Greater Bay Area.  Visitor arrivals increased approximately 37%  since last year benefiting overall retail spending. With more than 90 mega-events already locked in for the first half of 2025, we expect retail performance and tourism to thrive further.

This year New Island has participated in its first trade fair in Dubai to reach the Middle Eastern market. We have made sound connections and are expecting new business that brings more creative packaging designs to our portfolio. Our antimicrobial brand and product; Self-Sanitize Spiker^TM (SSS) has gained further exposure to customers from the food industry and infant cosmetics. Customers have shown interest in its protective bacteria-killing ability and certified safety for food contact.

Dongguan New Island Printing Co., Ltd. attained Gold Status recognition in the Ecovadis Sustainability Ratings with an overall score of 73 in August 2024. This achievement ranks New Island among the top 5% of all worldwide companies ranked by EcoVadis for all sectors. In 2025, our company will continue to improve our practices to reach higher ESG goals and reduce environmental impact.

According to Chinese astrology 2024 is the year of the DRAGON. The Chinese dragon is one of the most important and auspicious symbols in Chinese culture. According to the legends this powerful, majestic large sized creature is the ruler of weather and seasons. It has the ability to walk on land, swim, fly and travel between dimensions. The four king dragons ruling the seas (North Sea, South Sea, East Sea and West Sea) were believed to be the controllers of rain and wind. Thus in many Chinese villages, there will be temples to worship the Dragon King to seek their blessing for good weather for harvest, clean wells for drinking water and safe seas for the return of fisherman and traders. The dragon also symbolizes imperial power, authority, nobleness, good fortune, harvest and prosperity.

2024 is the year of the wood dragon. The element of wood (or the green dragon) represents stability, honesty, loyalty, creativity and growth. This is the year for visionary leaders, innovative minds and problem solvers. You can expect stability in business operations with energy that drives optimistic and ambitious ideas. Do not be surprised if someone presents you with a breakthrough idea. Look for innovation and creativity, as this is the area in which will you can expect good progress and good return. New Island joins the ESG Pledge Scheme 2023 to show the determination of acceptance, implementation and promotion of the sustainable development and promise to plan and launch the related action plans.

To raise the importance of the concept and practice of sustainable development in Hong Kong’s business community, the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA) launched the “ESG+ Programme to encourage all business sectors to sign the “ESG Pledge”. The ESG Pledge Scheme is aimed at strengthening the concern of sustainable development by encouraging businesses to implement action plans to improve the ESG (Environmental, social and governance) performance, thus building a sustainable environment in future.

By Joining ESG Pledge Scheme, participants of the scheme have pledged to demonstrate the determination to supporting sustainable development and build up an image of ESG pioneer. They can also gain support and learn the experience from planning and implementation solutions from by The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Brand Development Council (such as promotion program, training, technical advice, auditing and certification, public education, brand building, company networking etc.)

The ESG Pledge Scheme Certificate Presentation Ceremony 2023 took place on December 4th, 2023 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. The welcoming speech as delivered by President of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, Dr. Allen Shi SBD, BBS, MH, JP,. Followed by guest speaker Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Dr. Bernard Chan Pak-li JP.

New Island receives ESG Pledge Scheme Certificate

 

 

 

 

The first Ronald Mcdonald House was set up in Shatin near the Prince of Wales Hospital in 1996 as the first RMH program in Asia to provide a “home-away-from-home” for seriously sick or injured children and their families. The facility includes 23 family bedrooms including an isolation suite (especially designed for families with bone marrow transplant child patients), communal kitchen, library, study room, play area, communal dining area and an organic garden. The house runs on a family-centered concept and provides support, comfort and the resources these families need to help take care for their sick child.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities® Hong Kong has opened a second house during November 2023 in Kwun Tong, facilitated with 66 standard rooms and 6 special-needs rooms. The house also provides free shuttle services for families to and from the Hong Kong’s Children’s Hospital. The house offers support through a network of volunteers, donors, staff and families who encounter similar ordeals. This support helps relieve the emotional difficulty and help normalize the lives of these families.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities® Hong Kong Charity Raffle Sale Kick Off and Reading Program Ceremony held on 9^th July 2023 at East Point City, Tsueng Kwan O. New Island was honored to be invited as a printing sponsor and to have contributed to this meaningful fundraising event.

The Ronald McDonald House® provides a “home away from home” for families with seriously ill or injured children, to overcome difficulties and provide emotional support. Often while a family focuses on the health of a sick child, the well-being of other family members such as a sibling could be neglected. Normal domestic routines would be interrupted and enormous medical bills would be amongst the biggest worries.

The house is operated under a family-centered caring concept and offers free-shuttle service to and from the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Through a network of volunteers, donors, staff and families who encounter similar ordeals, the house provides support that help families cope better with emotional stress and help normalize life.
